‘Looking for Melquíades’, an exhibition by its 12th artist-in-resident, New-York based Colombian visual artist, Luis Cantillo. A photography project that sets to portrait one of the most fascinating characters from the book by renowned Latin-American writer Gabriel Garcia Márque.Rebirth(Faith杨馥蔚) participated in the production, inclusive of the casting, image concept; the styling, hair & makeup of our model, Michelle Tessensohn.

This is the first time we worked with an overseas talent. It was a great exchange and pleasure for us. Luis Cantillo will exhibit a series of images shot underwater during his residency in Singapore that is inspired by the journey taken by one of the book’s characters, , a gypsy-alchemist. The first time that the character dies in the novel happens to be in Singapore and the photographs are “possible reincarnations of him in Singapore today”.

Cantillo says, “With this project I hope to create an artwork that links two countries together with the language of literature, art and music.”For this exhibition, Cantillo is also collaborating with local composers to create a sound piece inspired by Melquíades and Colombian music.
